Routine durable medical equipment for telehealth care
In almost every patient visit to a health care provider, after signing in, a medical assistant takes your vital signs and reports them to the treating health care provider. This is done because vital signs provide objective measures of your physical state of being. As such, the importance of vital signs cannot be overstated.
Telehealth is outpatient health care. It is much more convenient than having to go to a brick and mortar building, park, sign in and wait your turn to see the health care provider. On the other hand, telehealth requires more patient self-care work and responsibility on the part of patients or caregivers. In particular, the patient or caregiver must take, record, and report patient body measures to the provider.
“Monitoring the few vital signs I monitor can make a bigger difference in healthspan and lifespan than any of the more dramatic things done in today's health care system.”
Olivia L. Young, PhD, PMHNP-BC
That is why the first health information section of the Mind Body Works Telehealth Pre-provider Follow-up Visit Questionnaire (FUQ) asks for your Body Measures.
I provide legal prescriptions for the equipment. As such, depending on your insurance plan, your insurer may reimburse you for the DME. Even if the plan doesn’t, the DME I order are very much needed equipment for informed self-care as well as safe, higher quality telehealth care.
Best regards,
