About Dr. Young

My path into mental health began with a job as a clerk at the Illinois Department of Mental Health and has been a journey intermixed with extensive clinical nursing education and experience. Over the years I earned BSN at St. Louis University, a BS in Human Development at Southern Illinois University-Edwardsville, a MSN in Public Health Nursing/Family Nurse Practitioner at the University of Illinois-Chicago, a PhD at the University of Missouri-St. Louis and my Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner Certificate at the University of Missouri-Columbia. I have also taught Fundamentals of Nursing and Psychiatric Nursing at the former State Community College in East St. Louis. I also taught Psychiatric Nursing and Applied Research Methods at Southern Illinois University-Edwardsville, Statistics in Applied Research, and Community Health Nursing at the University of Missouri–St. Louis. I have also served as a test reviewer for the American Nursing Credentialing Center’s Advanced Psychiatric Mental Health Nursing Examination development.

My doctoral study focused on family policy, applied research, addictions, and mental health public policy. Along the way I realized my first love was mental health. Hence, the PMHNP-BC post-masters certificate. I then worked as board certified psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner (PMHNP-BC) travel NP Provider. In so doing, I treated hundreds of clients in brick and mortar settings located in Missouri, Iowa, Arizona, Washington, Oregon, North Carolina, Texas, and NY.

I founded Mind Body Works Telehealth in 2016 to launch my own client-centered holistic psychiatric mental health care practice in what was at the time, a non-traditional setting—telehealth. Since then, I have provided one-on-one psychiatric mental health care to hundreds of people via the internet and telephone virtual visit sessions.

My approach to practice combines functional medicine and holistic advanced practice nursing to provide health care that can improve your healthspan and likely increase your lifespan or longevity, as well. It aims toward care delivery that is as convenient as possible, functional and healing. I follow the standard of care which says “Test, don’t guess” when it comes to body measures. Therefore, labs and vital sign monitoring are an integral part of my care, as are referrals to other providers when needed.

In recent years, I became aware of how hormonal and metabolic imbalances affect mental health, especially in women after menopause. Therefore, I began continuing education focused on specializing in metabolic health and hormonal imbalances.

About half of the people I see are professionals, including psychologists, physicians, nurses, lawyers, computer scientists, social workers, teachers and students in the health professions.
